Dick’s Sporting Goods Takes Assault-Style Rifles Out of All Stores

Dick's Sporting Goods CEO and Binghamton native Ed Stack announced today that all of their stores will stop selling assault -style rifles and high capacity magazines immediately.  The move comes after the recent Parkland, Forida shooting that left 17 dead and numerous others wounded.

In a statement released on their website Dick's Sporting Goods clarified their policies toward gun sales. The news comes in response to the mass shooting and the subsequent student protests asking for the nation to implement some type of rules and guidelines for gun sales...specifically assault-style rifles such as the AR-15 used in the killings.  Stack told ABC News, "we're taking these guns out of all of our stores permanently."

The website release outlines a number of updates from Dick's Sporting Goods pertaining  to sales of these guns and ammunition including:

Dick's will no longer sell assault-style rifles, also referred to as modern sporting rifles. Dick's had already removed them from all stores after the Sandy Hook massacre, but will now remove them from sale at all 35 Field & Stream stores which are subsidiaries of Dick's Sporting Goods.

Dick's will no longer sell firearms to anyone under the age of 21.

Dick's will no longer sell high capacity magazines.

Dick's has never and never will sell bump stocks that allow semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly.

Dick's Sporting Goods began operations in Binghamton in 1948 and has since expanded to well over 600 stores across the United States.  Company headquarters are now based in Coraopolis, Pa. just outside of Pittsburgh.  Dick's Sporting Goods recently announced the opening of a major distribution center for the northeast in Conklin, NY.  The facility is expected to employ over 400 workers.
