Dick's Sporting Goods made big news today when it was announced that the company plans to build a $100 million, 650,000 square-foot distribution center in the Broome Corporate Park area in Conklin, not far from Interstate 81 and the Pa. border.

Dick's Sporting Goods had its origin in Binghamton on Court Street close to 50 years ago. Since then the company has skyrocketed with over 740 stores nationwide and moved its headquarters out of Broome County to suburban Pittsburgh in 1994. At the time of the move Dick's executives cited the need to be near a major air hub to facilitate travel for vendors and Dick's representatives.

Pressconnects reports the facility is expected to employ more than 460 people in various capacities.  The new distribution center is scheduled to open in 2018 and will serve 200 or more stores in the Northeast.

Governor Andrew Cuomo was on hand for the announcement along with Edward W. Stack the CEO of Dick's Sporting Goods. The news comes on the heels of Dick's Sporting Goods commitment for another three years as the title sponsor of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open which was held less than two weeks ago.
