No injuries are reported in a spectacular pileup on Interstate 81 in the Town of Chenango October 27 that involved tractor trailers and cars.  Broome County Sheriff’s officials say a car collided with a deer that ran onto the highway, disabling the vehicle in the middle of the road.

Two cars stopped in the northbound lane but two tractor trailers that were following were unable to come to a halt and hit the three cars.

One of the rigs rolled over an embankment and ended up on its side.

Deputies say that tractor trailer was carrying a variety of merchandise, including food, household products and other equipment.

In spite of the number of vehicles involved, the highway remained open during the investigation.

Authorities remind motorists that deer are very active this time of year and this is a time for an increase of deer/vehicle collisions.

If you do hit a deer, if you can, get the vehicle out of traffic in a safe location.

Especially in the fall and spring, deer are more active in the hours around dawn and dusk.
