Plans are in the works to move Binghamton University's nursing school across the river to Johnson City.

The recently announced award of $500 million In New York State economic development funds to the Southern Tier Region will mean Binghamton University's Decker School of Nursing can pair with the new pharmacy school to be built on Corliss Avenue.  The BU School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences will be located across the street from where the nursing school will be set up, allowing both to collaborate on research and other projects.

Officials have not said when the nursing school will move.

In addition to making for another expansion off the Vestal BU campus, officials say the location of both schools near Wilson Hospital and the Center Village district will be an economic boon for the Village and its businesses.

The pharmacy school is currently slated to open in the spring of 2018.
