Two-way traffic has been restored on Water Street in downtown Binghamton following demolition of the fire-damaged Ellis Brothers building.

Debris has been hauled away from the site where the structure stood for decades.

The building was gutted by an April 30 fire. Engineers determined the brick exterior was in danger of collapsing, so an emergency demolition project was launched.

Although the debris has been removed from the demolition, crews are continuing to work at the site.

A portion of the sidewalk on the east side of Water Street remains closed.

The Nirchi's pizza restaurant next door to the demolition site also is closed. Although the Water Street location has been unable to operate in recent days, its phone line is being answered at the Nirchi's restaurant on Main Street allowing delivery orders to be filled.
