A Broome County Court jury found Christopher Davis guilty of first-degree and second-degree murder; and first-degree robbery in an October trial. He was sentenced January 2 by Judge Martin Smith.

Davis had been accused of killing 50-year-old Patricia LaCaprara in her apartment at 36 Brown Street. LaCaprara's body was found on July 8, 2013.

LaCaprara owned the house. Davis resided in an upstairs apartment.

Investigators said LaCaprara died as a result of traumatic head injuries. A prosecutor had said LaCaprara had been hit repeatedly with a blunt object.

Police took Davis into custody a few hours after the woman's body was discovered.

During sentencing, LaCapara's family addressed Davis saying his one brutal action had permanently changed the lives of not only the victim's family and friends but also Davis' family and friends.

Davis told the family the incident should never have happened and offered his sympathies but never apologized for killing his landlady.
