Davis College in Johnson City is getting bigger as it works to develop a recently-acquired property a short distance west of the main campus off Riverside Drive.

College president Dino Pedrone says steps are being taken to put the former Blessed Sacrament Church into use.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Pedrone said the "back office" at the site already is in operation. Davis College is developing a technology center to help churches and other organizations to put together and maintain websites.

Pedrone said bids are being sought to get the chapel in operation. He said the chapel area will have a capacity to seat 500 to 600 people.

The college president said there's an "outside possibility" the school's commencement ceremony in May could be held in the chapel. But, he acknowledged, it remains to be seen whether the work that must be done can be completed to allow that to happen.

Davis College is continuing to seek donations to a $2 million capital campaign to cover the cost of the development of what's being called the Chrisfield Campus.
