Authorities say troopers with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit conducted the operation at four spots on Route 17 and Interstate 86 in Tioga and Steuben counties.

Nearly 800 vehicle inspections were performed leading to the discovery of 1341 violations.

Police found improper transportation of hazardous materials and unsecured loads. They also discovered serious lighting defects, along with brake and steering problems.

Officials say 38 drivers were ordered off the road because of various violations, including improper or no commercial driver license. Some had hours of service violations, including falsified log books.

The 72-hour road check ran from July 29 through August 1.
