A Cortland County man will be spending up to 21 years in jail after causing the death of his six year old daughter in a drunk driving crash in April of last year.

30 year old Daniel Haynes III pleaded guilty to felony vehicular homicide in connection with the crash on West State Road in Virgil that killed Alexia and left his two other daughters and two adults injured.

Police say Haynes was driving at over 100 miles an hour and none of the children was wearing a seat belt when his car smashed into a utility pole.

Sheriff’s Deputies said Haynes and the adult passengers had been drinking at  the Haynes home and were planning to take the children to a babysitter for the evening.

One of the passengers said they believed Haynes had had a couple of beers but prosecutors say at the time of the crash his blood alcohol level was measured at .16%, twice the legal limit.

Haynes had a previous drunk driving conviction from 2007.
