A Cortland County man is in custody after barricading himself in his home, sneaking out in the middle of the night June 8 to evade capture before eventually turning himself in to New York State Police.

Troopers had gone to 28 year old Michael Debottis’ Cheningo Solon Pond Road in the Town of Cuyler at around 10:30 p.m. in an attempt to arrest him for harassment for allegedly sending threatening text messages to a woman in the Town of Triangle.

Authorities say they confronted him outside but he resisted arrest, ran inside his home and barricaded himself inside.

Troopers say under the cover of darkness, he left the house but turned himself in the next morning.

In addition to harassment, Debottis is also charged with resisting arrest.
