Crabb and Coleman Honored

Former Binghamton Mayor Juanita Crabb and former Binghamton Triplet Jerry Coleman were inducted into the Binghamton Baseball Shrine in ceremonies at NYSEG Stadium on Friday night.  Their induction brings to 68 the total number of members who are enshrined in the Binghamton Baseball Shrine which was formed in 1993.

Coleman was honored posthumously.  He played for the Triplets in 1946.  Coleman went on to play nine seasons with the New York Yankees and took part in six World Series.  He was named the MVP of the 1950 World Series.  Following his playing days Coleman became very popular as the play-by-play broadcaster for over 40 seasons with the San Diego Padres.

Crabb was on hand to accept her award.  She was widely credited with finalizing all the pieces to the puzzle to get Binghamton Municipal Stadium (now NYSEG Stadium) built and securing the development agreement with the New York Mets including franchise entry into the Eastern League.  The stadium opened and the Binghamton Mets began play in 1992.  She was fondly remembered by a number of fans who came to see the inductions and welcome the former Mayor home.
