Cortlandville Man Accused of Rape

A Cortlandville man is accused of sexually assaulting another resident of the North View Apartments on Route 11 and then getting into a fight with a man who confronted him about the alleged rape.

Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they arrested 53 year old Jessie Owens Junior shortly at 8:08 a.m. November 5 and charged him with felony rape and misdemeanor counts of unlawful imprisonment and endangering the welfare of a child.

The alleged victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.  Owens was jailed on $50,000 bail.

Authorities say the second man who was fighting with Owens was not charged for the disturbance.

Deputies say the investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
