Federal investigators are stepping in to look into the crash of a small plane in Cortland County August 25th.

County emergency services officials were called shortly before 3:30 p.m. with a report of a single-engine plane crashing at the end of the Cortland County Airport.

The 55 year old pilot, who was the only occupant of the plane, was able to walk away from the crash. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Federal Aviation Administration is taking over the investigation from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials at the Cortland airfield said they believed there had been a malfunction with the plane’s landing gear.
