Cortland County has a new legislative leader.

The legislature voted 12 to 4 to remove Democrat Susan Briggs as chair of the panel due to lack of confidence in her ability to act in the best interest of the county.

Briggs does stay on as a legislator serving the Cortlandville District.

Majority Leader Donnell Boyden has been named the new Chairman and Acting County Administrator.

Cortland Legislator Kevin Whitney steps in as Majority Leader.

Boyden says in spite of Brigg’s removal from the leadership position, he says she has left the county in a good place with keeping taxes under the two percent cap, moving forward construction of the Little York Lake dam and adopting an Assigned Counsel plan.
