Two Broome men are accused of trying to steal three large, heavy pieces of metal from a construction yard off exit 71S on Route 17 in Johnson City.

New York State Police say 63 year old John Facik of Johnson City and 50 year old Orvie Harvey of Windsor were seen by construction workers January 23 loading the metal into a truck and trailer.

The workers confronted the men and called the police while blocking the pair from leaving the construction site until Troopers arrived.

Facik and Harvey are charged with felony grand larceny.

Facik is also charged with possession of a forged instrument after authorities say he possessed an altered driver’s license.

The pair was sent to the Broome County Jail following arraignment in Town of Chenango Court.  No bail has been set.

Police say the pieces of metal are valued at about $1,200.
