The federal Energy Regulatory Commission is holding hearings in the region on plans to construct the so-called Constitution Pipeline to carry natural gas from the Marcellus Shale fields in northern Pennsylvania to site throughout the northeast.

Hundreds of residents of Broome, Chenango and Schoharie counties turned out this week for hearings in Afton and at the Schoharie high school.

The proposed multi-million dollar, 121 mile long pipeline would run from the gas fields in Susquehanna county, Pennsylvania through portions of Broome, Chenango and Delaware counties, ending in Schoharie county.
