Binghamton police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a downtown home invasion. A second suspect is being sought in the incident.

Authorities say Brandon Vernon of Norwalk, Connecticut, was arrested Friday (March 18).

Vernon has been charged with first-degree burglary. He was arraigned in Binghamton city court and sent to Broome County Jail.

Investigators say Vernon is suspected of being involved with the forcible entry of an apartment at 48 Court Street during the early-morning hours of March 16. Another arrest is expected.

Detectives say a man who lived in the apartment sustained head and facial injuries after two intruders entered the residence. The man and his girlfriend were tied up and pillow cases were placed over their heads.

The intruders ransacked the apartment and fled with some property.

In a statement, Police Chief Joseph Zikuski said the break-in was not a random incident. He said "the victim was targeted for specific reasons."

People with information about the case may contact the Detective Bureau at 607.772.7080.
