Conklin Man Accused of Choking Wife During Dispute

State police arrested a Broome County man following a reported disturbance at a home in the town of Conklin.

Authorities say 29-year-old Joseph Vanwert was charged with criminal obstruction of breathing and endangering the welfare of a child.

According to troopers, police were called to a Barbara Avenue residence to investigate a dispute.

Officials say Vanwert is alleged to have choked his wife while their 6-year-old and 10-year-old children were present.

Vanwert was arraigned in Kirkwood town court. He was sent to Broome County Jail on $750 bail.
