A new U.S. Congress is being sworn in and, for the first time in 20 years, Maurice Hinchey will not be among lawmakers taking the oath in Washington D.C.

The Ulster Democrat announced his retirement last year following health issues.

In the final part of the year, Hinchey traveled around his district to thank constiuents for their support and express his gratitude for being allowed to serve the region in Congress.

Hinchey says he has no immediate plans for the future but hopes to continue to advocate the area in some capacity as his health continues to improve.
