Dozens of flower baskets have arrived on Court Street in Binghamton in a continuation of a downtown tradition.

The flowers were placed on decorative lamp posts by city public works employees.

Security Mutual Life has worked with the city on the annual beautification initiative for nearly two decades.

The baskets containing red ivy geraniums have become part of the downtown scenery every spring as temperatures rise.

Mayor Richard David said he'll be holding an event with Security Mutual representatives soon to acknowledge the company's ongoing support for the basket project.

David said Security Mutual provides half of the funding for the flower baskets. City employees water the flowers on a regular basis during the spring and summer months.
