Coffee is being blamed for a crash that left a Castle Creek man with a head injury April 14.

Broome County Sheriff’s officials say 55 year old Ricky Kie was driving a pickup truck on Airport road at around 7:30 a.m. when he choked on his coffee, passed out and crashed into a fire hydrant.

The truck continued across a yard and almost hit a tree

Kie was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment.

Officials say Kie was wearing his seat belt.
