The 19th Annual Induction Ceremony for the Binghamton University Athletics Hall of Fame was held December 7 at the Events Center.  Four individuals and a team were honored  at an awards dinner following the Binghamton versus Penn men's basketball game.  The new inductees were introduced and welcomed back to campus at halftime of the game.

Among those honored was tennis standout Zeynep Altinay from the Class of 2007.  Altinay was a two-time America East Player of the Year, was a four-time America East All-Conference selection and was named the Binghamton University Athlete of the Year in 2004-05.

Also inducted was Joe Garbarino from the Class of 1958.  Garbarino is second on the University's career-scoring average chart with 22 points per game.  He was a two-time team MVP and captain as a senior and was selected as the school's Athlete of the Year in 1956-57.

Lacrosse player Kevin McKeown from the Class of 2006 also was honored.  McKeown was one of the finest lacrosse players in the school's history.  He received numerous awards during his career including America East Player of the Year in 2004, three-time America East All-Conference selection and a Scholar All-American in 2004.

Helene Thomas from the Class of 1985 also becomes a member of BU's Hall of Fame based on her basketball career. Thomas was a four-year starter and a three-time team MVP.  She became the program's first 1,000 point career scorer and was named the University's Athlete of the Year in 1984-85.

For the first time ever, an entire team was inducted.  The 1983-84 wrestling team finished 3rd at the NCAA Championship which is the highest national finish of any team in school history.  Coached by Hall of Fame member Steve Erber, the Colonials as they were known then, produced six All-Americans and one national champion in Tom Pillari.

The Binghamton University Athletics Hall of Fame was established in 1996.  It is designed to honor those who have distinguished themselves and the University through the intercollegiate athletics program.
