Residents of Binghamton's West Side who spotted a city crew removing a tree at a Riverside Drive intersection are being advised that no other trees are about to be taken down.

A City Hall spokesman says parks department workers were doing "routine tree removal" this week.

Crews were working on a very tall tree on a corner at Riverside Drive and Murray Street on Tuesday.

According to the city official, the tree in the utility strip between the street and sidewalk was being removed at the resident's request.

The official noted there are tree replacement and planting activities happening throughout the city but the work off Riverside Drive was not related to that.

Many West Side residents were angered last year by tree trimming work ordered by NYSEG. Some complained that the contractor hired by the utility was doing a "hack job" to trees in the effort to protect electrical lines.
