Binghamton police were looking for a suspect in connection with the theft of a city government laptop computer.

The device reportedly was stolen from an official vehicle while it was parked in a hotel parking lot one block west of City Hall.

The laptop computer was said to be a Dell model. It apparently was swiped late Thursday morning. The vehicle was parked outside the Holiday Inn on Hawley Street.

Investigators were looking at a surveillance video recording that reportedly showed the larceny as it occurred.

Police were looking for a suspect who was described as a black male who had been wearing a red hoodie, light-colored pants with a dark design from the knees down and white sneakers. He also was said to be wearing a gray knit cap.

After taking the laptop, the thief reportedly headed from Hawley Street to Court Street.
