The 31st Annual CHOW Hunger Walk is set for tomorrow (Sunday) at 2 PM at Binghamton University.  Registration begins at 1 PM.  The Walk starts behind East Gym on the BU campus and will progress to the perimeter of the Nature Preserve and back to the East Gym for refreshments.

CHOW (Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse) provides thousands of meals for needy families and individuals in the Broome County area.  The goal of this year's Walk is to raise enough money and non-perishable food items to provide 250,000 meals for the hungry which wold last for about two and one-half months.  CHOW annually provides well over one million meals to local needy families and individuals.

CHOW Director Mike Leahey, speaking on News Radio 1290 WNBF yesterday, says the approaching holiday season is especially difficult for many families.  The lengthy school vacation over Christmas and New Year's means children are not able to get food and meals normally provided at school.

Along with monetary donations there is a large need for items to make meals with including pasta, cereal and spaghetti sauce.  CHOW requests food in non-breakable containers.  Volunteers will be staffing a drop-off area behind East Gym for those who are not able to participate in the Walk but want to make food donations.
