The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) is gearing up for a very busy time of year, both when it comes to need for food services and an annual outpouring of help from the community with food donations.

CHOW Director, Mike Leahey, appearing on the October 24 edition of the Southern Tier Close Up says additional challenges with the colder weather, school vacations and the holidays can make it hard for CHOW to keep its warehouse stocked.

One new program that is being added to CHOW's mission is the new community resource center on the Southside of Binghamton at the warehouse on Otsenengo Street.

Leahey says the new program looks to expand beyond just feeding residents with hunger challenges but also provides training to help lift people out of poverty in a dignified environment.

Coming up November 2-9 thee annual Town Square Binghamton CHOW Food-a-bago will be collecting food donations in a borrowed camper at the Weis Market location on Upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango.

Information on CHOW can be found at the Broome County Council of Churches website.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
