Broome County Family Violence Prevention Council coordinator Janette Cyganovich Brush appears on the April 11 edition of the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up to talk about April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and the 30th anniversary of the formation of the collaborative effort known as the Family Violence Prevention Council.

Brush says a number of events continue through the month to focus awareness on child abuse prevention, with an emphasis on prevention.

Brush says the focus this month is being placed on healthy families and is represented by the appearance of blue pinwheels around the region.

Meanwhile, the Family Violence Prevention Council now has 40 members from diverse backgrounds including law enforcement, counseling, social work and the medical profession to address child abuse, elder abuse and domestic violence issues. Information is available from the Council on those and other topics by calling (607) 778-2153 or through the county website at www.gobroomecounty.com/fvpc.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
