The New York State Department of Transportation will not close Chenango Street in the City of Binghamton during the entire summer construction work on Interstate 81 afterall.

The project was discussed at a meeting of the Northside Neighborhood Assembly. City  officials said the closures would, instead, be limited to four days at a time for four separate phases of the construction.

The street around the southbound portion of the Interstate is slated to be closed sometime in the middle of May for partial demolition work on 81. Specific dates have not yet been set.

Initially the work on the Prospect Mountain project was to shut down Chenango Street for 4-6 months which upset business owners along the route.
