The Chenango Forks School District can move forward with plans to make $18.2 million in improvements, including many security upgrades with the approval of voters by a slim margin.

Residents approved the capital project plan in a vote of 203 to 149.

In addition to security improvements, work will be done on the roof of the high school, athletic fields, technology systems and accessibility provisions.

Work is to begin in 2016.

The majority of the project costs are being covered through New York State aid and district capital funds.

Officials said they expected little or no impact on the tax levy.
