Letters are to be sent to families in the Chenango Forks School District explaining an incident involving a reported suspicious person seen on campus April 25, which prompted a lockdown.

The lockdown was enacted at around 3 p.m. and included confining students to classrooms and moving athletes practicing outside into the high school building after officials were informed there was a suspicious man seen on the school grounds.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office ordered the lockdown  and searched the campus in the Town of Chenango.

A review of security tapes revealed the person in question is actually a teacher but was not recognized by a student.

When authorities called the ‘all clear’, students were dismissed.

School district officials say even though the incident was a misunderstanding, the student who reported a suspicious person did the right thing.
