Two school district merger plans have been sunk for now.

Voters in the Spencer Van Etten and Candor school districts have rejected moving a proposal for merging the districts on to a binding vote.

A straw vote concerning the possible merger of the Chenango Forks and Chenango Valley school districts has also ended the consolidation process for now with CF voters turning down the plan and CV residents apparently narrowly approving moving the proposal forward.

The districts will not be able to vote on a flat-out merger again for two years but New York State could press the schools to consolidate selected services.

Administrators in the districts considering consolidation said, regardless of the outcome of the straw vote, they were very pleased by the enormous turnout at the polls with thousands of residents lining up to register their opinion.
