A man accused of shooting a Bainbridge man to death in an alleged road rage incident in the parking lot of a Bainbridge fitness center in October of 2014 will have his fate decided by a judge next month.

57 year old John Guzy March 14 waived his right to a jury trial.

The former part-time Chenango County corrections officer is accused of killing 26 year old Derek Prindle and wounding Prindle’s 60 year old father.

New York State Police say the incident on October 27 began on Route 7 with Guzy following the men’s vehicle to the fitness business parking lot, confronting them and drawing a gun.

Guzy was indicted by a grand jury on 17 counts in November that include murder, assault, criminal use of a fire arm, evidence tampering and criminal possession of a weapon.

He pleaded not guilty to all the counts and additional charges of drunk driving and misdemeanor weapon possession.

If the Judge finds him guilty of murder April 4, Guzy faces a maximum of 25 years to life in New York State Prison.
