Chenango County Man Faces Rape, Other Charges

A 49-year-old man has been charged with four felony counts - including rape - following an investigation by state police in Chenango County.

Authorities say Donald Mercer of Columbus was arrested on Sunday. He was charged with third-degree rape and three counts of criminal sexual act. He also faces one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Investigators say Mercer is accused of having sexual contact with a girl under the age of 17.

Mercer was arraigned in Norwich town court and sent to Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
