A Chenango County man is accused of felony drunk driving after his vehicle swerved of State Highway 235 in Coventry, hit a guiderail and crashed into a creek.

Deputies say 42 year old Mark Barrett of the Town Smithville tried to run away and hid in a nearby wood line.

He was located by a civilian, who identified him as the driver.

Barrett’s blood alcohol level reportedly measured at .19%, over twice the legal limit.

Investigators say they found the Smithville man had a previous DWI conviction within the past ten years and his license was suspended.

He’s charged with felony driving while intoxicated, felony driving with a blood alcohol of .08% or more, aggravated unlicensed operation and moving from a lane unsafely.

Barrett was sent to the Chenango County Jail on $5,000 bail.
