Authorities say 26-year-old Brittany Waldruff and 24-year-old Derrick Waldruff were each charged with four misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals.

According to state police, troopers responded to assist a Norwich dog control officer with the abandoned dogs which were discovered in a home on Route 12 in the Town of North Norwich.

Investigators say the beagle and her puppies were abandoned after the couple was evicted. The dogs were left inside the locked apartment. The lack of water resulted in extreme dehydration.

The Waldruffs were ordered to appear in North Norwich town court on September 14.
