Authorities say 25-year-old Adam King of Smithville sustained lacerations to his arms when he went through the window exiting a neighbor's home. He was taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.

According to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to the home on Round Pond Road around 10:20 a.m. Thursday to investigate a reported burglary in progress.

Police discovered a man inside the home. They also learned there were guns in the residence, so they set up a perimeter around the house.

A short time later, officers noticed smoke coming from the rear of the residence. King then was spotted running from the building. He was apprehended after a short foot pursuit.

King is to be charged after he is released from the hospital.

Investigators say the fire caused extensive damage to the house.
