A town of Chenango woman was charged with driving while intoxicated after a grocery store clerk alerted authorities to an apparently inebriated customer.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, 55-year-old Deborah Earel of West Chenango Road was arrested Tuesday night.

A clerk at the Red and White grocery store in Chenango Bridge called police after the woman entered the business and appeared to be intoxicated.

When a deputy arrived at the store, Earel reportedly was trying to drive away.

Earel was charged with DWI and refusing a roadside breath test.
