A popular stop to buy gas off the Southern Tier Expressway just south of the New York border is part of a crime investigation.

Officials are investigating the stabbing of Chemung man in Wilawana, off Interstate 86.

Officials say 54 year old David Cooke of Chemung became annoyed at 57 year old Joel Genovese of Elmira, since he thought he was following too closely in a construction zone on the Interstate.

Both cars exited the highway and pulled over where Cooke allegedly grabbed Genovese, who then stabbed Cooke in the arm.

Cooke retreated to the nearby gas station, where he got first aid treatment before being transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.

Genovese fled the scene, but he was arrested a short time later.

The investigation is continuing.
