Championship Foes Set In America East Women’s Basketball

It is an All-Albany Championship Basketball weekend coming up at the SEFCU Arena in Albany.  The Great Danes will host the women's title game Friday at 4:30 p.m.  when they face the Hartford Hawks.  Then Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Albany plays host to Stony Brook in the men's championship game.

On the women's side Hartford advanced to the championship round for the fourth time in the last six years and ninth overall with a 65-54 win over the regular season co-champion Maine Black Bears Sunday 65-54.  Albany rolled to a 66-37 romp over the UMBC Retrievers.  The Great Danes make their fourth straight appearance in the America East title game.  It is the third consecutive year the Great Danes will host the championship contest.  Albany will look to become just the second team to win four straight America East championships.  Maine accomplished that feat from 1995-99.

This weekend's match-ups will draw plenty of attention.  The Albany - Hartford women's game will be televised nationwide on ESPNU.  The men's title game between Albany and Stony Brook will be shown of ESPN2.  The winners of each game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
