Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say a Madison County teen, driving a rental car tried to outrun them as they tried to pull her over for speeding.

Officials say 19 year old Cassondra Brown of Georgetown was driving the vehicle that had been observed speeding on Route 13 in the Town of Cuyler shortly after 5:30 p-m 3/7.

Deputies say as Brown sped off, with her 14 year old sister in the car, she lost control on South Hill Road, hit an embankment and telephone pole.

The driver complained of neck pain and was transported to a nearby hospital but the younger girl was not hurt and was turned over to a family member.

Brown is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful fleeing a police officer, speeding, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation, failure to comply and driving on the shoulder.

She was released to Alternatives to Incarceration.

Officials say the investigation is continuing and more charges could be pending from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
