Food, music and other entertainment are being offered on the street with other celebrations inside the bars and restaurants in the neighborhood.  Fireworks cap off the night when the ball is lowered on State Street.

Motorists can expect some streets in the downtown area to be blocked off beginning in the evening.

Meanwhile, revelers are reminded to make plans to get home safely.  Law enforcement agencies will be out in force looking for drunk and dangerous drivers.

The Schimmerling Law Offices are offering free taxi rides home again.  The firm has provided Safe Night rides for over two decades.

Safe Night is available between 12 a.m. and 4 a.m. on New Year’s morning and is good for a single ride home.  The rides can be arranged by calling (607) 779-1000.  Area bars and restaurants have been given cards to publicize the service.
