Scrap Metal Sales Benefit the American Red Cross

 

Sales of scrap metal in the region could benefit the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross for several months. 

Ben Weitsman and Son recycling says customers at their Binghamton and Owego operations bringing in metal for sale can ask that their payment be directed to the Red Cross through the ‘Metal for the Mission’ project until June.

Funding Could be Restored for Broome County Senior Bus Program

 

Binghamton City Council could take action to restore funding for senior bus transportation services operated by Catholic Charities of Broome County. 

In recent budget actions, lawmakers had rejected a request for $14,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funding for the program.

Broome County Library Offers Food for Fines

 

If you owe fines for late book returns at the Broome County Public Library, a can of beans might get you off the hook. 

Through January 2nd, patrons can get one dollar off their outstanding fees by bringing in a non-perishable food donation for the Catholic Charities Food Bank.

Broome’s Returning Warrior Run Raises Thousands of Dollars for Vets

 

Broome County Executive Debra Preston says the first Returning Warrior Ten and Five Miler run  raised $3,000 for the Southern Tier Veteran Support Group.

The race drew 354 runners to Otsiningo Park November 9th and was organized by the STOP-DWI Program and the Southern Tier Veteran Support Group.
