Broome County Men Allegedly Stole and Sold Scrap

Kathy Whyte/ WNBF NewsTwo Broome County men are accused of stealing scrap metal from a Conklin business and selling it at Weitsman’s Scrap Yard in the City of Binghamton.

 

Police say 30 year old Donald Turner of Binghamton and 28 year old Matthew Edwards of Endicott are charged with criminal possession of stolen property.

New York’s Senate Advocates for Animals

The New York State is putting a bite on crimes against animals.

Albany went to the dogs, and cats, and birds and other pets June 3 as the Senate held its annual Animal Advocacy Day.

The Senate passed a number of measures:

* Double the jail time for people who commit acts of cruelty to animals in front of children to four years

* Double the maximum fine of misdemeanor abandonment of animals to $2,000

* make the theft of a pet a felony grand larceny offense

* increase the penalties for leaving a companion animal in a vehicle in extreme hot or cold temperatures with a first offense a fine of $250-$500 and $500-$1,000 for repeat offenses

Binghamton Man Arrested in Hotel Drug Bust

A Binghamton man is accused of selling drugs out of a room at a hotel near Roberson Museum that has been known by numerous names over the past few years.

Broome Collects Hundreds of Pounds of Expired Drugs

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office reports over 800 pounds of expired and unwanted medications have been collected and safely disposed of between last October and March.

The department also partnered with the Broome County Office for Aging in April and May to visit senior centers and collected an additional 800 pounds of drugs for disposal
