Career Criminal is Believed to Have Intentionally Infected Women With HIV

Kathy Whyte/WNBF News

Some Southern Tier women have contacted authorities and the Southern Tier AIDS Program after learning a career criminal, who lived for a time in Binghamton intentionally infected women with HIV.

40 year old Cartrell Brooks is currently being held in Louisiana for drug possession, aggravated incest and intentionally exposing women to HIV charges.

Sheriff’s officials in DeSoto Parish say they have received calls from women in the Binghamton area who may have had unprotected sex with Brooks, not knowing he was infected with HIV.

The Southern Tier AIDS Program says it’s always important to know the HIV/AIDS status of a person’s partner.

Officials say Brooks has been arrested 53 times, reportedly has over two dozen children and has served time in at least five states.

In 2006, Brooks was shot at the Rock B Tavern in Binghamton but refused to cooperate with the police investigation.
