An Oneida County man will be on probation for a year and have to serve 25 hours of community service for opening people’s mail in Chenango and Oneida Counties and stealing gift cards and cash.

Federal Prosecutors say 34 year old Michael Oliver pleaded guilty to obstruction of the United States mail for the incidents while he was employed as a highway contract driver for the Postal Service between May and September.

Officials say greeting cards, money and gift cards were taken from at least 160 pieces of mail.  31 victims filed impact statements prior to sentencing.
