Area emergency services officials have been reporting a huge spike in the number of vehicle-deer collisions over the past several days.

This is the time of year the deer become more active as they forage in advance of winter.  The animals are most active around dawn and dusk.

Motorists are reminded to be watching the sides of the roads and, if a deer starts to move into the road, do not swerve.  Authorities say damage and injury can be more serious by people trying to avoid a collision.  Instead, slow down and brake as soon as possible.
