Shoppers visiting the Oakdale Mall this week will see some very interesting displays built out of.....are you ready for this ???...canned food !  The Broome Leadership Alumni Association Board is hosting   Canstruction of the Southern Tier  presented by Visions Federal Credit Union in the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City from Sunday March 23 - Sunday March 30.

Ten competing teams have set up displays of canned goods that will be donated to the Food Bank of the Southern Tier and CHOW.  Displays will help increase hunger awareness in our community.

Canstruction is an international hunger-relief competition where teams compete to design and build giant structures made entirely from full cans of food. 100 % of the proceeds from the event will support hunger-relief activities in Broome County.  Donated food will be distributed through CHOW to food pantries, soup kitchens and community meal programs.

Funds raised will be equally divided to support the Food Bank's BackPack Program in Broome County and a new CHOW initiative to provide food for children in need during the summer months when children do not have access to school meal programs.
