A half-dozen candidates for local and state offices are planning to discuss issues in a public forum in Binghamton this week.

The event is scheduled for Thursday evening at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church at 83 Main Street.

Republican state Senator Fred Akshar and his Democratic challenger Sharon Ball have agreed to participate in the forum. Democratic state Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and her Republican Dorollo Nixon also are scheduled to appear.

Republican Broome County Executive Debbie Preston and her Democratic challenger Jason Garnar also plan to attend.

The forum will be held in the church sanctuary starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
