A Poughkeepsie man is being treated at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City after a truck ran over him while he was sleeping in a field in a sleeping bag off Upper East Bank Road in Walton and the bag became entangled in the front wheel and undercarriage.

Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say a number of campers were sleeping in the field at 3:20 a.m. October when 30 year old Dustin Truman of Walton crested a knoll on an off-road trail and drove over 24 year old William Pregnall.

Responding Sheriff’s Deputies, fire and emergency squad personnel were directed to the scene by the passengers of the truck who walked from the field to the roadway to show emergency crews the way, one mile from the road.

Authorities say Pregnall had apparently been sleeping on the trail below the knoll.  He had to be pulled from under the truck by the Walton Fire Department and Emergency Squad.

The investigation is continuing, but so far, no charges have been filed.

Pregnall’s condition has not been released.
