The Independent Democratic Conference of the New York State Senate is calling for up to a two year delay in approving the start of hydraulic fracture drilling for natural gas in the state until initial results of an independent health review are complete.Several months ago, Geisinger Medical Center and other Twin Tiers health agencies announced the start of a long-term study into the health impacts of fracking in the region.  While initial results are expected in a year or two, officials say the study could span several decades.

The senate Democratic Conference shares control of the state senate with Republicans.
